Assume the second contact knows the first loss story

People who report a missing crypto payment can attract messages from supposed investigators, wallet technicians or refund agents. The contact may quote the transaction amount, platform name or complaint text, making it feel connected to the original case. That knowledge is not proof of authority. Recovery scams deliberately target people who already lost money and may request an upfront fee, tax, verification transfer or wallet access. The safest response is a no-second-payment rule and independent verification through the exchange, wallet provider, receiving service and appropriate reporting channel.

The FTC explains common refund and recovery scam patterns, including unsolicited contact, claims of special access and demands for upfront payment or financial information. The page is U.S. consumer guidance, while reporting and legal remedies vary elsewhere. It does not decide whether a crypto transfer can be recovered. This article builds a documentation and verification process without promising reimbursement. Blockchain transfers are often difficult to reverse, so speed matters for reporting, but urgency does not justify giving a stranger control of another account or wallet.

Preserve the recovery solicitation separately

Save sender details, claims, payment instructions and destination addresses without replying or opening new links. This is useful because the second contact is a new incident even when it accurately describes the original payment.

Mixing its messages into the first support case can hide who requested which fee or credential. For example, a person quoting a public transaction hash may have learned the amount from the blockchain or a public complaint. Note contact time, channel, sender, claimed organization, requested fee, address and link text. Do not confirm additional personal or financial details.

Test authority through an independent directory

A real organization name, logo or case number can be copied, and caller ID can be spoofed. Verification must begin from an official site or known account interface rather than information supplied by the contact.

Look up the organization independently and ask whether the person, case and recovery service exist. Keep official domain, directory contact, person or unit, case result, callback time and discrepancy. Calling the number in the recovery message only returns control to the same sender. Stop when the organization cannot confirm the service.

Reject fees, transfers and wallet access

Each new payment can deepen the loss while giving the contact more evidence about available funds. The evidence for that conclusion is narrow: Recovery scammers commonly ask for an advance payment, processing charge, tax, verification transfer or remote-control session.

A request to deposit crypto into a safe wallet controlled by the investigator is another transfer, not proof of recovery. A practical response is to state no payment will be made, disconnect remote tools and revoke any token approval or session already granted. Record requested method, amount, remote tool, approval, revocation action and completion time. Never share a seed phrase, private key, password or one-time code.

Report through the transaction participants

An exchange may flag an address or preserve account evidence without promising a refund. This matters because prompt reports can preserve records even when reversal is unavailable.

The sending exchange or wallet service and receiving platform may retain account, timing or destination evidence relevant to the incident. Open cases through verified routes, supply a concise timeline and ask each participant what actions are possible. The working note should contain transaction ID, network, amount, sending case, receiving case, report time and response. Do not describe a report as recovered money.

Publish only bounded status language

Begin with the observable fact: A case can be reported, acknowledged, investigated, blocked in part, closed or unresolved. No update as of 1 October is more accurate than a permanent conclusion based on silence.

Using recovered before funds return or failed before review ends misleads the affected person and future readers. Maintain a dated status table and quote the official disposition without adding a prediction. Preserve status, organization, update date, amount affected, amount returned, evidence and next action and use this stop rule: Correct public posts that expose addresses or identities unnecessarily.

Use the FTC pattern to recognize the second loss attempt

The FTC describes recovery scammers who approach people after a prior loss, claim they can obtain a refund and demand advance payment or sensitive information. It advises against paying upfront and recommends independent research and official reporting. Those points support the hard separation between preserving the original transaction and refusing a new payment to a self-appointed helper.

The FTC cannot recover every payment and its reporting route is jurisdiction-specific. Legitimate investigators and service providers may have formal processes, but authority must be confirmed independently and no one needs a wallet recovery phrase to view a public transaction. Users should contact local law enforcement, regulators or qualified counsel where appropriate and avoid claims that reporting ensures reimbursement.

Close the door on a second payment while keeping the first case active

The file contains the original transaction and official cases, plus a separate record of each recovery solicitation, requested fee, address, independent authority check, revoked access and report. Status language distinguishes reporting, investigation and actual returned funds. The no-second-payment rule remains visible at the top. No seed phrase, private key, one-time code or remote session is supplied. Follow-up occurs on scheduled dates through known channels rather than through the solicitor.

A missing deposit and a recovery scam can both intensify the urge to chase. SignalBet is for adults 18+ only where lawful.
